22 December

I had a fantastic day with Murray from Summit Road Society installing a trapline within the Society’s Ohinetahi Bush Reserve, Whakarapo, Lyttelton Harbour.
Korimako song everywhere and a Kereru playing in the breeze.
The work being done by the Society and its volunteers is contributing immensely to the area’s ecological and cultural health, as Whakaraupo, and the wider Peninsula, is restored for us and our children after us.
“With pest management being carried out in recent years the native bird population is increasing. Birdsong is dominated by the bellbirds, which is continuously echoing through the Reserve. Fantails, silver eyes, grey warblers, and native pigeons are commonly sighted, with the occasional sighting of tomtits”.
Thank goodness I have been cycling and doing plenty of walking, Murray is a machine.
