The final week to get submissions in on the proposed plan change 8 of the Canterbury Regional Land and Water Plan has arrived.

The Press has regularly reported on this, however given the long term cost to the people of Canterbury it is a long way from being understood or acknowledged.

The ability for existing consent holders to change the activity from what they originally were consented for, has potentially massive ramifications.

Thomas Sankaras words relating to the use of public funds for luxury over basic survival needs feel most appropriate when applied to our natural resources “We must choose either champagne for a few or safe drinking water for all”.
