Biodiversity, whose responsibility?

I felt compelled, not only as a Councillor but as Chair of the Biodiversity & Biosecurity committee, to respond to the article in yesterdays The Press reporting the previous days Council meeting regarding the draft 23/24 draft annual plan.

Specifically a comment attributed to the Chair “fundamentally biodiversity isn’t our responsibility” (I have been advised by The Press that this has been amended to “fundamentally terrestrial biodiversity isn’t our responsibility”.

I cannot speak for the Chair, but presume he means the role of the Local Territorial Authorities and terrestrial biodiversity, however, who ever has responsibility, in my opinion, it is’nt working.

Anyway, here is the abridged version of the letter from this mornings edition of the paper.
